In his work Claude Gilli<\/strong> reflects on sculpture as a constant dialogue between two and three dimensions.<\/strong> In the 1980\u2019s, after meeting with Michel Roudillon<\/strong>, Claude Gilli starts working on steel sculptures. He pro- gressively abandons woodworking to follow the path of cutting and welding steel.<\/strong> Many new perspectives open up to him, one of them is the possibility to conquer the outdoors by making monumental sculp- tures. His cuttings, incredible three-dimensional land- scapes<\/strong> in layers and painted in blue, green, yellow and pink are an explosion of colours<\/strong> and materials recal- ling the pop tendency of the Nouveaux Re\u0301alistes (New Realists)<\/strong> and a composition in the same vein as Wesselmann<\/strong>. He may figure feminine nudes<\/strong>, bottles or layered Mediterranean landscapes<\/strong>, they all remind us of Nice, the blue sky of the Riviera, that will always be tied to Claude Gilli\u2019s work.<\/p>\n
